Sailing General Cargo Ship "TRES HOMBRES"

May/June 2017 I was part of the "TRES HOMBRES" crew during a voyage from Amsterdam via Blankenberge, Newcastle and Texel to Den Helder. Transporting cargo under sails on an engineless tall ship was a new experience to me. I had been working on tall ships and I had been working on cargo ships - but never before on a sailing cargo ship. Having no engine to start when there is no wind or the wind is from the wrong direction was another challenge, forcing us to think more about what we were doing, to pay even more attention to weather forecasts and conditions, to endure a total calm... "TRES HOMBRES" is very consequent in what they are doing. Life on board is simple and environment-friendly. Transporting cargo from A to B emissionfree is their motto. This includes living on organic food on board, saving energy wherever possible, using man-power instead of power-tools. Read more about the ship under www.fairtransport.eu
